I was so pleased to be approached by the talented Gia Sharp to produce a custom Atlas Table for a home nestled in the Catskills.
Slightly larger than the original, the process begins with raw oak lumber. Planks are planed and leveled before being cut down into a series of 1/8" thick veneers. These veneers are then glued together and placed into a jig that forms each arch. Once dry, arches are planed, sanded and sized to a uniform dimension. Holes are drilled through each arch into which an architectural brass rod is threaded. Once a finish is applied, a custom half inch glass table top completes the piece.
